Bullet Academic Success Strategies for Struggling Learners
This course is only open to Prince of Peace School educators.

Education professionals will learn what they can do to help students with mild disabilities — from elementary to post-high school — develop academic skills in organization, test-taking, study skills, note taking, reading, writing, math, and advanced thinking. Strategies fit perfectly with RTI—give teachers a clear and easy way to help struggling students and take next steps if more intervention is needed; improve skills in specific academic areas such as reading, writing, spelling, and math; build foundational skills such as attention, self-control, memory, and good listening; work equally well for an entire class, small groups, or individual students; help students with a wide range of learning challenges, including learning disabilities, sensory issues, and emotional or behavioral problems; and enhance the home-school connection—both teachers and parents can use the handouts and website to help children make progress in areas of concern.

Learning does not have to be drag. For far too long students associate school as boring and not engaging. It is a place they HAVE to be at during the day. What if we flipped things around and created projects where students WANT to be at school? They want to come to your room to learn.

This course is designed to really challenge your thinking and teaching practices along with your comfort zones. You will be tasked with developing a project to be used in the upcoming school year.

You will work on your own and with others to build and design a classroom experience that transforms the way teachers and students view learning. Come ready to put on your learner hat and walk away with something you can implement in your classroom the next school year.

Bullet Developing Behavior Interventions: An Introduction to Behavior and Classroom Management Intervention

Developing Behavior Interventions is a course specially designed to give teachers a foundation in behavior-based interventions to use in their classroom. Participants will begin by learning about what is necessary to get to know the student and look for any background information, which can aide in developing an intervention plan. Next, the course focuses on different data collection methods that will aide teachers in creating a baseline for their intervention. Participants will examine the 4 functions of behavior and be able to hypothesize what function or functions the student’s behavior is currently being reinforced. Participants will then use the data that they have collected to show whether the intervention that is in place is working by making and reading a graph. The participants will then make modifications to their plan and justify their decisions based on research based interventions. This is an online course. The instructor will closely monitor student participation through log on time, the posting of assignments, and responding to teacher and student postings. Students can access the on-line class 24 hours per day from their computer. This will be a self paced class.
