          Bullet Building and Leading Effective Professional Learning Communities

This course is for Calamus-Wheatland, Camanche, and Easton Valley school districts

Participants will work collaboratively in both district teams and role-alike groups to further clarify and understand the teacher leader roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Teacher Leadership and Compensation grant as well as to determine alignment between TLC and the PLC process. District teams will use the PLC rubric to identify current reality in order to create action steps for developing a PLC system and develop a plan of action to communicate the vision to all staff. Participants will understand and use processes and communication strategies to build a collaborative culture within a system.

          Bullet Journey to Excellence: Iowa Training Model for Mentors of Beginning Educators

This course is open only to No. Scott District educators.

Journey to Excellence is designed to prepare and support mentors as they assist beginning educators’ transition from the professional preparation to educational practice.

Using best teaching practices, mentors are trained for their role of supporting and guiding beginning educators.

Journey to Excellence is grounded in a developmental view of teaching and recognizes that this complex, demanding profession is learned over a number of years of study, consultation and reflective practice. Based on the Iowa Teaching Standards and Criteria, Journey to Excellence includes the essential elements for developing and sustaining educator quality in support of student learning.

Registration for this course will close on 4/7/16.

          Bullet Student-Centered Coaching Year 1
In this two-credit course facilitated by Diane Sweeney Consulting, teacher leaders will learn to implement student-centered coaching, a coaching model that increases teacher effectiveness and student achievement by focusing on student outcomes.

Emphasis will be placed on coaching cycles, using formative assessment data to drive instruction, embedding standards into coaching conversations, and partnering with principals to lead the coaching effort. This is a blended learning opportunity, consisting of five days of face-to-face learning combined with three half-day coaching labs, online interaction and in-district support.

Participants will be expected to implement and reflect upon student-centered coaching practices in their own school setting.

   Participants are recommended to have one of the following books (not included in registration fees):
Student Centered Coaching: A Guide for K-8 Coaches and Principals by Diane Sweeney, 2011

Student Centered Coaching at the Secondary Level by Diane Sweeney, 2013

          Bullet Designing and Implementing Effective Professional Development
This course will develop or increase Teacher Leader capacity within districts to create and deliver effective internal professional development based on district needs in order to increase instruction and learning.
