This half day on-site training will cover Michigan’s laws on HIV/STI education in public schools and what this means for teachers. It will also provide information on current trends, transmission methods, prevention strategies, testing and treatment options for HIV and other STIs, and how to access related health services. The training will also address how personal experiences, values, and biases can affect teaching and learning and provide best practice strategies for making HIV/STI education age-appropriate, engaging, relevant, inclusive, and effective. By the end of the session, participants will be able to identify the knowledge and skills students need at different grade levels to make healthy choices and reduce the risk of HIV and other STIs.
