School Leader’s Guide to Tackling Attendance Challenges, Absenteeism, & Truancy

District-based and Campus-Based Student Supports Teams with a Focus on Promoting  Attendance and Reducing Chronic Absenteeism – Teams will include district and campus  administrative representation, educators, and a parent representative.

Facilitator: Dr. Tricia Berg, Safe and Civil Schools

This event is a Four Day Training Series

Part One: June 17 - 18, 2026

Part Two: June 14 - 15, 2027

NO COST Lunch will be provided (provided via 35i Family Engagement Grant, Region 5)

  • Event Highlights:

    • Participants will receive School Leader’s Guide to Tackling Attendance Challenges.

    • Foster welcoming school environments.

    • Communicate clear, consistent messages promoting daily attendance.

    • Apply tiered strategies for family engagement.

    • Include universal supports and targeted, individualized outreach.

    • Identify attendance barriers through surveys, attendance trends, and student/family feedback.

    • Implement mentoring, check-ins, and connections to community resources to address chronic absenteeism.

    • Leave with a concrete team plan detailing next steps and assigned roles for immediate implementation.
