The book not only holds information, but can be a way to explore our surroundings in unique ways. In this course we will explore options for three-dimensional books. Concentrating on accordion folded variations, we will construct tunnel, and carousel books. These structures are ideal for artist books, children books, and unique presentation books. Tunnel and Carousel books have historically been used for childrenís books or keepsakes.
Engaging students in Iowa Core subject matter through physical object allows for a deeper understanding of that subjectís relevance and how we share information with others. These structures employ basic arithmetic and geometry skills and can house content related to any subject matter.
Participants in this course will experience first hand the sense of ownership that making an object, especially one that is so essential to education, can lend to many social and cultural topics. They will be shown how to use affordable materials and will be shown techniques that can be adapted for a variety of age and skill-levels.
Registration for this workshop will close on 6/19/16.
