This course will introduce educators to the content of the Number and Operations in Base Ten and Operations and Algebraic Thinking Domains of the Iowa Core Mathematics for grades K-2. Educators will be immersed in the content as learners and develop skill in identifying student misconceptions and providing conceptual experiences to build understanding in these domains. Educators will also develop an understanding of the importance of Number Talk routines, Essential Questions, and promoting a growth mindset.

Some work and course materials are stored online so participants should bring their laptops. A math binder/notebook is required for this class. Educators should be familiar with the Standards for Mathematical Practice before beginning this course.

For educators who have previously taken the TICM Operations for Grades K-2: This course will be similarly aligned to that previous course with learning around Number Talks, Problem Types in the Core, and place value understanding with addition and subtraction strategies.
