Restorative Justice in Schools: Creating a Foundation for Teaching and Learning

Participants will learn about the origins of restorative justice and what its rollout in schools would look like. There will be time for participants to make meaning of what they have learned and relate it to their own context.

Objectives:


Participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe a basic understanding of restorative justice practices in schools.
  • Define the origins of the philosophy of restorative justice and its associated practices.

Restorative Justice in Schools: Harm, Conflict, and Healing

Participants will dive deeper into the work to explore conflict and harm. The presenter will also discuss how restorative justice practices in schools can proactively mitigate conflict while also acting as an intervention for it.

Objectives:


Participants will be able to:

  • Identify and understand conflict and harm and how they can effectively be addressed in a school setting.
  • Identify and understand the connection between Tier 1 practices in the MTSS framework and how they are necessary for implementing restorative justice to respond to harm and conflict.
