This one hour session will guide participants through the process and procurement of items available in short term loan. Participants will be given an overview of the types of items in STL and the steps to borrow, use and return.

  • List items available in Short Term Loan.
  • Understand the process of borrowing equipment.

Prevention and Intervention Measures to Support Student Mental Health

This training is meant to serve as an introductory discussion about best practice ideas to promote good mental health in the classroom. We will review the roles of various mental health professionals. Participants will discuss strategies that encourage collaboration with parents and outpatient providers to promote wellness. We will consider the ways that various mental health issues can impact learning and peer relations. We will review how to find local resources for mental health support in your district and consider barriers to care.

Participants will be able to:

  • List ways to effectively collaborate with students, parents and family members to establish comprehensive care planning about social and emotional issues.
  • Discuss case studies that highlight various student, teacher and parent coping strategies that influence help seeking.

This Hour with the Expert session will highlight the experiences of four highly-skilled deaf education practitioners who have made the successful transition into supervision and administration, with an emphasis on considerations for those thinking of taking the leap, current challenges and successes, and the future direction of the field.

  • Identify important considerations for practitioners exploring a transition into administration.
  • Describe several major challenges currently faced by supervisors and administrators in deaf-education and potential solutions.

Pediatric Unilateral Hearing Loss: An Evidence Base Update

Previous studies have shown that children with unilateral hearing loss (UHL) are at an increased risk for a range of developmental difficulties and delays. However, there are considerable individual differences in outcomes among children with UHL. This presentation will provide an evidence base update on pediatric UHL.

  • List fitting options for students with minimal/unilateral hearing loss.
  • Discuss the impact of minimal / unilateral hearing loss on academic success and progress.
