Overview
Webinar
Students with complex communication needs who need augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems may lack the power to say what they want to say and to authentically participate to make progress in school. In this two-part training series, participants will learn evidence-based strategies to support classroom communication in ways that provide students using AAC with that power.
This two-part training series is designed to support the implementation and process of the Power: AAC modules. Participants will use a blended learning model, videos and online teaching, to explore and expand their understanding of the Power: AAC modules and expand the support of their students’ communication needs. During each synchronous webinar, participants will engage in practical activities and discussions that relate to their daily practice. Content and training in part one, “POWER: AAC Learning the Basics,” reviews the information from POWER: AAC modules 1-6 and provides an overview of core vocabulary and the implications of the use of AAC principles and strategies introduced for students who have language needs. Content and training in part two, “POWER: AAC Applying Practices,” reviews the information from POWER: AAC modules 7-12 and provides a deeper look at supporting the implementation of AAC within the classroom and beyond to support life-long communication.
