Strategies to Integrate Data Science Into K-8 STEM Courses

This session is designed to help teachers learn to incorporate data science into everyday lessons. We will focus on data habits of minds that students need to develop when working with data. After discussing why data literacy matters, we will work through the data investigation cycle (ask statistical questions, collect and understand data, analyze data & interpret and communicate data) as we explore various easy to incorporate data-based classroom activities.

The session draws upon the PA Data Science standards and the recently released GAISE II standards. You will leave the session with ready-to-use activities and a better understanding of how to help your students become curious about data as they develop into critical consumers of data all around them.
