    Act 13 for Instructional Leaders: Leadership for Learning in the Classroom

    This course will provide information and methods for the supervision and evaluation of the temporary and professional employees, the implementation of multiple measures of student performance, and information concerning the principals’ rubrics and goals. Included in the instruction are methods for conducting walkthroughs, informal observations and formal observations and conducting the pre and post conferences. Participants will be instructed concerning the completion of the Act 13 evaluations using defensible evidence provided by both the teacher and administrator and writing the professional improvement plan as required by Act 13.

     Please note that this course has been approved as an Act 13 approved course and does meet the training requirement in Act 13 of 2020. 

    Credit: 50 (PIL/ACT 45 or Act 48)

    Lunch: Provided for onsite sessions

    Cost: $800.00

    Target Audience
    Education Administrators including but not limited to Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Principals, Assistant Principals, Curriculum/Instruction and Special Education Directors.
    Learner Outcomes

    Day 1 Learning

    •  Articulate the relationship between supervision and teacher evaluation
    • Recognize the impact of teacher effectiveness on multiple measures of student achievement
    • Utilize and assess a variety of collected artifacts in order to substantiate multiple measures
    • Identifying methods for collecting defensible evidence in classroom walk-throughs, informal
      observations, and evaluations

    Day 2 Learning

    •  Identifying defensible verses non-defensible evidence in written observations
    • Collecting student and teacher centered evidence
    • Identifying and substantiating preponderance of evidence
    • Conferencing strategies that initiate discussion on the identification of facilitation of student
      learning and achievement
    • Writing the evidence-based observation report
    • Instruction on establishing goals as required by the principal evaluation (PDE 82-2/13-2)

    Day 3 Learning

    • Observation procedures for data collection
    • Determining the reliability and validity of evidence.
    • Application of Student Performance Measures as required by Act 13 legislation
    • Demonstrating the ability to provide examples of the three teacher specific areas of Act 13:
    • Student Achievement Scores, Student growth measure (PVAAS) and IEP Growth Measure.
    • The emphasis upon student growth and achievement as measured by the LEA Developed Rubric
    • Apply multiple measures of effectiveness using the PA Classroom Teacher Rating Form with an
      emphasis on student learning and growth

    Day 4 Learning

    • Participant co-scoring of defensible evidence, placed within the Framework of Teaching
    • Differentiated supervision as required by Acts 82/13 and different options of teacher differentiated supervision
    • Evaluation of the temporary professional verses the professional teacher
    • The Teacher Performance Plan as required by Act 13Identifying and writing the required format of a PDE Performance Improvement Plan

Payment Instructions
All cancellations must be submitted in writing via email to abickel@csiu.org. To receive a full refund or credit, cancellations must be received at least 14 business days before the start of the event unless otherwise specified. Cancellations made within 10 business days of the event will not be eligible for a refund; however, substitutions are permitted. Participants may send a replacement to attend the event in their place. Exceptions to this policy will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
