NEST Grand Rounds Series- Introduction to School Counseling: Roles, Responsibilities and Impact

School counselors play a vital role in supporting the academic, social-emotional, and career development of students. This Grand Rounds presentation provides an overview of the comprehensive school counseling program and the evolving role of school counselors within today's educational systems. Participants will explore the foundations of school counseling, including the delivery of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports, collaboration within Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), crisis response, student advocacy, and strategies for promoting positive school climate and student well-being. This session will examine evidence-based practices, ethical considerations, and the ways school counselors' partner with educators, families, and community agencies to address barriers to learning. Participants will gain a greater understanding of how school counseling services contribute to student achievement, attendance, behavior, mental health, and postsecondary readiness.
