    Student Support Strategies - The Brain and Body Under Stress, Ourselves and Our Students

    The regional Student Support Services Job Alike meeting will focus on understanding how stress impacts the brain and body in both students and the professionals who support them. Participants will explore the neurological, emotional, and behavioral effects of stress, examine how stress responses can influence learning and relationships, and discuss strategies for promoting regulation, resilience, and supportive environments within schools. This meeting aims to strengthen participant understanding of stress-informed practices while supporting collaboration across student support roles.

    This month’s session includes a presentation on understanding the brain and body under stress by Dr. Tim Knoster.

    Format:

    • Interactive workshop with scenarios, reflection, and resource sharing

    •  Describe how stress affects brain functioning, behavior, and emotional regulation in both students and adults.
    • Identify common stress responses that may impact learning, relationships, and school participation.
    • Explain strategies for promoting regulation, resilience, and supportive interactions within school settings.
    • Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and stress-informed practices to better support students, families, and school staff.
