Deeper Practices in Literacy Instruction and Technology, Level 2

For the first half of the course, participants discover elements of literacy to enhance deeper comprehension of content. Collaboration strategies, such as book clubs and shared writing, are explored to target student engagement and foster student voice. In the latter part of the course, an array of technology tools and resources that foster comprehension and collaboration are introduced. These resources will include powerful tools from Google, Stormboard, Piktochart, Padlet, and others. Strategies for using technology tools for the creation of engaging formative assessments will be explored. Participants leave with lesson plans integrating the course elements to enhance and grow student literacy.

Course Outcomes:

1. The elements of reading and deep comprehension.
2. The book club framework to help foster critical thinking and collaboration.
3. Questioning to help deepen literacy conversations in book club.
4. The writing process as a collaborative and interactive experience.

5. Google Doc and Google Classroom/Edmodo as platforms for meaningful collaboration.
