High Efficiency Administrators: Flipped PD, Time Saving Tools, and More!

Administrators are constantly looking for ways to efficiently engage their staff during staff meetings, professional development, committee meetings, and professional learning communities. After surveying nearly 40 administrators in my region, more than half indicated that “housekeeping” (announcements, reviewing forms, etc.) was 10% or more of their staff meeting time. In other words, administrators are spending precious time talking AT their staff instead of engaging WITH their staff in collaborative, professional learning.

High Efficiency Administrators puts educators in a position to leverage the power of technology to create an efficient, effective work flow. With simple tools such as a web-cam, microphone, and screen-casting software, administrators can deliver much of their “housekeeping” content to staff members well ahead of the physical meeting time. This shift in content delivery not only allows staff members to come prepared, but also allows for learning to take place at one’s own pace and during a time that is convenient to them.

In addition, learning about collaborative tools such as Google Drive, Google Hangouts, and Twitter will allow the High Efficiency Administrator to connect with staff outside of typical brick and mortar meetings. Without this knowledge, administrators will continue the trend of spending vast amounts of time on “housekeeping”.

During this professional development opportunity, participants will:

    1. Attend a face to face kickoff session
    2. Create an action plan for the implementation of various high efficiency tools
    2. Implement various high efficiency tools
    3. Collaborate with participants via Moodle forums and Google Hangouts
    4. Attend a face to face celebration

SCECHs are available for each course (9 SCECHs per course - pending approval)

This event will take place over three courses. Participants are welcome to sign up for all three courses or select the topics which best fit their needs and schedules. Those interesting in keeping the course equipment (webcam and mic) agree to sign up for all three courses. Participants choosing to one or two courses will need to provide their own equipment.
