6022 Next Generation Science Exemplar (NGSX)

The Next Generation Science Exemplar (or NGSX) is professional learning conducted in face-to-face study groups. Participants explore the major ideas found in the NRC Framework and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), developing tools and strategies to take this new vision back into their classrooms.

The focus of NGSX is integrating three-dimensional learning into science classrooms, in which teachers support students in using science and engineering practices to develop, apply, and refine disciplinary and crosscutting ideas. Teachers engage in these practices and investigate classroom cases to explore how to bring these approaches into their own classrooms.

Study groups work through the nature of modeling, support for classroom discourse, and difficulties students face in reasoning about the nature of matter. Participants consider how they can support the vision of the Framework.

These sessions include use of a web-based learning and response system. Please bring a laptop or tablet to all sessions if possible.
