This hands-on training provides early childhood staff with essential lifesaving skills in Adult and Child First Aid and CPR, in accordance with national guidelines from the American Red Cross. Participants will receive a two-year certification upon successful completion of the course. Designed specifically for those working in early learning environments—including Head Start, GSRP, ECSE, and Early Head Start—this training equips educators, assistants, and support staff with the confidence and competence to respond to medical emergencies quickly and appropriately. Key learning components include: Recognizing and responding to breathing and cardiac emergencies in children and adults Performing high-quality CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) Administering first aid for common early childhood injuries such as choking, cuts, burns, allergic reactions, and falls Understanding the chain of survival and the importance of timely intervention Applying safety precautions and infection control practices in emergency response Participants will engage in instructor-led demonstrations, guided practice, and scenario-based learning to ensure readiness for real-life situations that may occur in classroom, playground, or home visiting settings. This training supports licensing, Head Start Performance Standards, and health and safety compliance while reinforcing staff readiness to protect and care for children in their programs.
