This professional development event centers on deepening the understanding and implementation of reflective supervision as a critical support for Early Head Start home visitors, early childhood classroom educators, and support staff across Head Start, GSRP, ECSE, and Early Head Start programs. Reflective supervision is a relationship-based professional development practice that fosters self-awareness, emotional insight, and intentional decision-making in service of high-quality, responsive care for infants, toddlers, young children, and their families. Rooted in the core principles of infant and early childhood mental health, trauma-informed care, and cultural humility, this event will provide participants with both a theoretical foundation and practical tools to engage in effective reflective supervision. The event will highlight the unique needs of both home- and center-based practitioners, acknowledging their complex roles, emotional labor, and the importance of ongoing professional reflection. Through interactive sessions, participants will: Explore the key components and functions of reflective supervision, including safety, curiosity, and parallel process Engage in small-group reflection and role plays to practice reflective listening, holding space, and non-judgmental inquiry Examine case examples from home visiting and classroom contexts to apply reflective principles in real-world scenarios Understand how reflective supervision supports professional resilience, ethical practice, and high-quality relationships with children and families Learn strategies for integrating reflective supervision into existing supervision and coaching structures, including frequency, format, and documentation best practices This professional learning opportunity recognizes reflective supervision as an essential driver of staff well-being, effective family engagement, and quality service delivery. Participants will leave with a deeper capacity to engage in reflective dialogue, support their peers and teams, and sustain emotionally responsive practices in their work with young children and families.
