This two-part, full-day professional learning experience is
designed for elementary educators teaching the Pennsylvania STEELS Standards.
Through collaborative, hands-on learning, participants will deepen their
understanding of three-dimensional, phenomena-based science instruction and
examine effective pedagogical practices that support student sensemaking across
elementary grade levels. Across the two Elementary STEELS PLC workshops,
participants will: Explore high-impact instructional strategies aligned to
STEELS, including the 5E Model, Ambitious Science Teaching, scientific
modeling, productive discourse, and Claim–Evidence–Reasoning (CER); Analyze and
refine classroom assessments to ensure alignment with STEELS performance
expectations and instructional best practices; Engage in collaborative planning
and resource sharing to support consistent implementation of STEELS-aligned
instruction within and across grade levels; Review statewide assessment updates
(PSSA, Keystone, and PA Firefly) and discuss implications for elementary
classroom practice and instructional planning. The workshops emphasize hands-on
learning, peer collaboration, and actionable classroom strategies that enhance
