Meeting the Standards Through a Lake Erie Lens

This full-day professional learning workshop will immerse
educators in the exploration of local watersheds and the Meaningful Watershed
Educational Experience (MWEE) framework as a vehicle for advancing Pennsylvania
STEELS Environmental Literacy & Sustainability standards. Through hands-on
learning experiences, interaction with regional environmental organizations,
and collaborative planning opportunities, participants will gain practical
strategies, resources, and community connections to design authentic watershed
investigations and stewardship projects for their students. Educators will
leave equipped with ideas, inspiration, and implementation tools that support
student engagement in real-world environmental issues while building
environmental literacy and sustainability competencies. Participants will
increase their understanding of STEELS-aligned Environmental Literacy &
Sustainability practices and develop actionable plans for implementing
Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) that connect students to
local environmental issues, community partners, and stewardship opportunities.
