Regionwide STEELS High School Biology Professional Learning Community Gathering

The High School Biology STEELS Professional Learning
Community Gathering is a structured, full day professional development session
designed to support secondary science educators in implementing the
Pennsylvania STEELS Standards and aligning instruction to three dimensional
learning expectations. This worksho brings together high school biology
teachers from across the IU5 region to engage in collaborative examination of
STEELS aligned instructional practices and explore coherent phenomenon based
Biology storylines that strengthen instructional rigor and coherence.
Participants will engage in both whole group and topical breakout sessions
focused on high priority areas such as designing three dimensional tasks,
strengthening inquiry based laboratory experiences, and addressing regionwide
challenges related to curriculum transitions and Keystone aligned expectations.
The session will also highlight supports available through IU5, including
Training and Consultation services and STEM Lending Library resources, to
promote continued implementation beyond the workshop day. Through structured
collaboration, shared problem solving, and guided professional reflection, this
PLC gathering aims to enhance instructional consistency, deepen content
pedagogical expertise, and improve Biology learning outcomes for high school
students across the region.
