    AW 2026: English Department: Norming

This professional development program focuses on norming and standardizing the grading of student writing to ensure consistency, fairness, and instructional clarity across the English department. Educators will collaboratively analyze student writing samples, apply shared rubrics, and engage in guided discussion to calibrate expectations and scoring practices. Through this process, teachers will strengthen their understanding of grade-level writing standards, develop a shared instructional language around feedback, and refine assessment practices. Consistent grading and feedback improve student understanding of expectations, promote equitable evaluation, and support targeted instruction that leads to improved writing outcomes.

    Target Audience
    Archbishop Wood English Teachers
    Learner Outcomes

This program directly supports participants within the English certification and instructional assignment by aligning grading practices to common writing standards and course expectations across grade levels. The norming process allows teachers to apply shared criteria to authentic student work while maintaining flexibility for course-specific objectives. As a result, all English educators benefit from consistent assessment practices that support vertical alignment, instructional coherence, and student growth in writing.
