Session Details

Participants will examine research-based strategies for designing meaningful learning experiences that connect disciplinary content to enduring understandings, essential questions, and real-world applications. Through collaborative curriculum planning, teachers will analyze first-quarter units, identify opportunities to strengthen relevance and student engagement, and develop at least one lesson that intentionally connects course content to broader themes, ethical decision-making, civic responsibility, or interdisciplinary concepts. Participants will utilize collaborative planning protocols to create standards-aligned instructional experiences that promote critical thinking, student discourse, and authentic learning.  Teachers will leave the workshop with a completed lesson ready for implementation, a shared departmental resource, and strategies for increasing student engagement through purposeful instructional design.

This workshop is applicable to educators across all content areas because it focuses on research-based instructional design, standards-aligned curriculum planning, interdisciplinary learning, and strategies that increase student engagement and higher-order thinking. Participants will apply the concepts directly to their own curriculum by designing an instructional lesson for implementation during the first quarter. The workshop incorporates principles of adult learning through collaboration, reflection, practical application, and job-embedded lesson development.
