Autism & LSS Networking Sessions focus on collaboration, idea-sharing, and practical strategies to support students with disabilities. These sessions will provide a space for teachers to connect, reflect, and exchange effective instructional, behavioral, and social approaches tailored to the unique needs of diversified learners.

Objective(s): The purpose of these meetings will be to support Indiana & Armstrong Districts AS & LSS Teachers in discussion around best practices for students with disabilities. 

Topics and Objectives for 2026-2027

Instructional Strategies and Task Analysis

• Share effective task analysis practices and task box systems.

• Exchange hands-on materials, resources, and implementation ideas.

• Discuss strategies for differentiating tasks across grade levels and student needs.

Leisure and Independent Living Skills

• Explore methods for teaching meaningful leisure and recreation skills.

• Share activities and resources that promote independence, engagement, and community participation.

Grade-Level Scope and Sequence

• Collaborate on developing age-appropriate skill progressions across elementary, middle, and high school settings.

• Discuss essential skills students should acquire at each instructional level.

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Support

• Review the FBA process and best practices for conducting assessments.

• Share examples of behavior intervention plans and secondary-tier behavior supports.

• Exchange data collection tools, progress-monitoring systems, and behavior-tracking resources.

Life Skills Curriculum and Community-Based Instruction (CBI)

• Discuss scope and sequence ideas for teaching functional life skills, including:

  • Budgeting and money management

  • Banking and financial literacy

  • Shopping and consumer skills

  • Employment readiness

  • Personal care and self-advocacy

• Share successful Community-Based Instruction (CBI) experiences, activities, and partnerships.

Classroom Organization and Scheduling

• Exchange ideas for daily schedules, routines, and classroom management systems.

• Discuss strategies for maximizing instructional time and promoting student independence.

• Share classroom structures that support diverse learner needs.

Assistive Technology and AAC

• Explore a variety of assistive technology tools and resources.

• Share augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and implementation strategies.

• Discuss how technology can support communication, academics, behavior, and independence.

Resource Sharing and Collaboration

• Participate in "Show and Tell" opportunities to share successful lessons, materials, classroom systems, and innovative practices.

• Collaborate with colleagues to problem-solve common challenges and celebrate successes.
