Using Manipulatives in the Math Classroom 2019-20

(This is a repeat session from 2018-19.  It is a two day series.  Participants are asked to register separately for each day they are available to attend.)

Manipulative use is recommended because it is supported by both learning theory and educational research in the classroom.  Manipulatives help students learn by allowing them to move from concrete experiences to abstract reasoning.  This two day series will focus on using manipulatives to help students connect ideas and integrate their knowledge so that they gain a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.  Manipulatives explored during this session include unifix cubes, pattern blocks, tangrams, base ten blocks, Cuisenaire rods, two-color counters, and playing cards.
