Applied Behavior Strategies for Special Educators Training Series - Year 2
This 2-day training series is designed to build internal capacity of IU and district special education staff in further evaluating the effectiveness positive behavior support plans and identifying behavior intervention strategies that align with the principles of behavior and hypothesis statements. In addition, participants will demonstrate the ability to design behavior intervention plans that incorporated trauma-based intervention, decide how and when to make intervention changes for behavior, create fidelity checks for positive behavior support plans, and describe guidelines for how to complete a manifestation determination and when it is necessary.
Target Audience
Special Education teachers, Lead Support teachers/coaches, Psychologist, Related service providers for special education students
Learner Outcomes

Define ABA and the principals of Behavior

Operationally define behavior

Analyze data collected and graphed regarding problem behavior and replacements and identify when it is appropriate to make an intervention change, re-evaluate goals based on progress, or continue with current interventions

Apply skills in developiing FBA's and PBSP's in the classroom enviornment and evaluate the effectiveness of an FBA and PBSP

Create a plan for collecting fidelity data and providing staff support

Identify strategies that modify antecedent events

Identify strategies that teach socially valid replacement behaviors

Identify reinforcement schedules and strategies for ensuring that replacement behaviors occur again

Identify at least 1 extinction strategy that ensures problem behavior will not contact reinforcement

Decide when a crisis plan is justified and create a model that incudes a sufficient task analysis

Demonstrate the ability to utilize de-escalatation techniques to decrease challenging behavior in a crisis

Describe gukdelines and timelines for completing a menifestation determination

Demostrate ability to complete the components of a manifestation determination
