Event Details

--Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy: K-3 Essentials 2 & 7

This is a blended learning format with Michigan Virtual Self Guided PD on Michigan Virtual-5 Hrs (Free SCECHS Included). This workshop offers two Zoom Sessions of 60 Minutes to support implementation to a virtual or face-to face classroom.

Educators will build their knowledge with the Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy with a focus on Essential 2: Read alouds of age-appropriate books and other materials, print or digital, and Essential 7: Intentional and ambitious efforts to build vocabulary and content knowledge. Educators will complete the self-guided study on Michigan Virtual and then participate in a collaborative discussion to address and connect the learned strategies to their current curriculum and instructional setting.

Target Audience
K-3 Educators, Coaches, Title I Educators, Reading Specialists, Interventionists
Learner Outcomes

1. Participants will identify the research behind the use of read alouds in the classroom.

2. Participants will identify strategies for fluency, higher order discussions, and comprehension when using a read aloud during instruction.

3. Participants will identify and engage in practice of intentional vocabulary instruction.

4. Participants will connect their learning to their students' needs, their curriculum, and their instructional delivery format.
