Event Details

--Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy: K-3 Essentials 3 & 9
This is a blended learning format with Michigan Virtual Self Guided PD on Michigan Virtual-5 Hrs (Free SCECHS Included). This workshop offers two Zoom Sessions of 60 Minutes to support implementation to a virtual or face-to face classroom.

Educators will build their knowledge with the Essential Instructional Practice in Early Literacy Essential #9: Ongoing observation and assessment of children's language and literacy development informs their education. As well as using that data to inform Essential Instructional Practice # 3: Small group and individual instruction, using a variety of grouping strategies, most often with flexible groups formed and instruction targeted to children's observed and assessed needs in specific aspects of literacy development. Educators will complete the self-guided study on Michigan Virtual and then participate in a collaborative discuss to address connect the learned strategies to their current curriculum and instructional setting. Educators will expand their knowledge of best practices to (1) use formative and diagnostic assessment tools to inform specific instructional targets, (2) deliberately providing quality instruction to children in all groups and (3) coaching and engaging students in (a) monitoring for meaning, (b) letters and groups of letters in words (c) re-reading and fluency (d) explicit instruction

Learner Outcomes
(1) Participants will expand their knowledge of best practices to plan small group and individual instruction based on observation and assessment to guide instruction. (2) Participants will engage in deep discussion around the evidence based instructional strategies to support learners in small groups and individually. (3) Participants will connect learning to their students' needs, their curriculum, and their instructional delivery format in small group and individual instruction.
