--Advanced Course: Essential Practice #7 - Building Knowledge Through Vocabulary Instruction K-1
This professional learning opportunity provides participants tools to develop engaging vocabulary strategies. Educators will build content knowledge as well as how to provide vocabulary instructional through intentional read alouds. Learning will focus on words taught in topical networks. This exposes students to many more words than the typical 6-8 word-a-week approach. Vocabulary instruction builds background knowledge which is the critical foundation for comprehension.
Target Audience
K-1 teachers, Special Education teachers, Coaches, and Interventionists
Learner Outcomes

1. Participants will connect Essential Literacy Practice #7 to instruction.

2. Participants will engage readers rich language instruction through wide-reading.

3. Participants will learn strategies to encourage talk among students where they utilize the new vocabulary in a variety of contexts.
