Close Reading in a Virtual Setting (Virtual Edition)

Close reading is one of the top “deep” literacy strategies that leads to analysis of texts. But, there are varying definitions of what close reading is and just how to get students to actually think. In this workshop, I explore key components of close reading as we discuss ways to effectively create online lessons with close reads.

Workshop Agenda

  •  Define what close reading is/is not according to Doug Lemov and Reading Reconsidered
  •  Observe modeling of close reading questioning

  •  Troubleshoot issues with online annotating, discussions, and pacing for remote close
