You Want Me to Read What? Discovering Ways to Help Students with Non-Fiction

Objectives:

  • Explore Reading Strategies that will help students interact with non-fiction texts.
  •  Meet at least 60 teen friendly non-fiction titles.
  •  Experience 5 activities to take home and do with students.

Description:

Whether you call it non-fiction or informational text, it is a firm fixture in the educational landscape; however, our students often struggle to understand these more complex texts, and we often struggle because they are not often our favorite genre, so not only are we unsure of where to begin to help students but are also unsure of where to find these texts.  Discover ways to help students interact with non-fiction, and possibly help improve test scores.  Meet at least 60 student friendly non-fiction titles.

This workshop is delivered virtually through Google Classroom.  Participants will view videos, review resources and submit reflection assignments at their own pace.  This course will be open for registration through May of 2021.
