Building Thinking Classrooms in the 6-12 Classroom

If you are connected to any professional math groups or social media, you may have noticed Building Thinking Classrooms by Peter Liljedhal take learning networks by storm the past few years. What is a thinking classroom? A thinking student is an engaged student, actively thinking of connections and solutions. Institutionally, the majority of our time with students has shifted to "non-thinking" tasks. In his nearly 2 decades of research on the matter, Dr. Liljedahl presents 14 teaching practices to enhance learning and create more "thinking" opportunities. This 2-day workshop will take a deeper look at the Building Thinking Classrooms 14 teaching practices focusing on content, engaging instructional moves, collaboration and models of practice. All participants will receive a copy of the book.

Participants of this course will explore the 14 classroom practices as presented in "Building Thinking Classrooms." Each participant will leave with the understanding of how to implement intentional tasks, how to create a "Thinking Classroom" infrastructure , and how to adapt notes, homework, and assessments.
