6477 In-District - Next Generation Science Exemplar (NGSX)

The Next Generation Science Exemplar (NGSX) is a 5-day series to explore the major ideas found in the National Research Council Framework and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These documents are at the core of the 3-Dimensions of the Michigan Science Standards.

NGSX participants experience 3-dimensional science learning as both student and teacher using the Disciplinary Core Idea of Structure and Properties of Matter. They experience an anchor phenomenon and then engage in 3 key Science and Engineering Practices: Modeling, Argumentation, and Explanation. The second half of NGSX is integrating three-dimensional learning into science classrooms. Teachers learn key strategies and structures to support students in using science and engineering practices to develop, apply, and refine disciplinary and crosscutting ideas. Teachers engage in these practices and investigate classroom cases to explore how to bring these approaches into their own classrooms, evaluate newly aligned curricula, and contribute to more balanced assessment systems for science.

These sessions include face to face and on-line learning tools. Please bring a laptop or tablet to all sessions if possible.

In-District Host Option: For the 2018-19 school year, WRESA will support 5 days of in-district local site hosting for NGSX cohorts between 14(minimum)-28(maximum) participants. Districts/PSAs wishing to host are encouraged to collaborate with neighboring districts in order to achieve the required cohort sizes as necessary. Total costs for printing and facilitation and dates will be determined at the time of request.
