6255 Visual Literacy: Using Primary Sources Across the Curriculum
What is visual literacy and why is it important? This hands on program will introduce teachers of ELA and social studies to visual literacy and IWitness, an educational website of over 2,000 audiovisual testimonies from survivors of genocide and other mass violence. IWitness has ready-made classroom materials as well as content that can help teachers to integrate primary source documents into lessons on a wide range of topics/themes. This workshop will bring together teachers of ELA and social studies to consider the ways in which skills and content can overlap and enhance one another in the common core classroom. The audience for this course is teachers in grade 6-12. Contact David Hales at halesd@resa.net with questions.
