6081 MTSS in the Primary Classroom: How Do We Assess & Progress Monitor Student Growth in Literacy
One component of a successful MTSS framework is evaluating what we know about effective literacy practice. Teams of teachers and interventionists will explore ways to use common language and practice in aligned and meaningful ways during reading and writing workshop and small-group interventions. The Fountas and Pinnell Prompting Guides, Part 1 and Part 2 will be used as a guide for our work. The guide is designed to provide language and actions that support the reader’s construction of an efficient network of strategic activities for processing text and writing stories. Jennifer Serravallo’s The Literacy Teacher’s Playbook Grades K-2: Four Steps for Turning Assessment Data into Goal-Directed Instruction, will support participants in how to observe and record reading behaviors, analyze and interpret the multiple data points, and decide what skills and strategies should be taught to reach individual literacy goals. The intended audience is teams of K-2 classroom teachers and certified interventionists.
