Description:
This general session will introduce participants to the concepts found in Bridges Out of Poverty. This basic overview will cover the basics of generational poverty including the mental model of poverty and hidden rules, including the differences in communication styles and techniques for better outcomes.

Objectives:
1. Complete the sentence “At the end of the session, participants will be able to …..”
2. Define the difference between generational and situational poverty
3. List 6 hidden rules of poverty
4. Define the language barriers between middle class and poverty
5. Better build relationships with clients who are from generational poverty
6. Use motivational interviewing techniques to help clients reach their own goals
7. List some pitfalls of client interactions with those in generational poverty
