Connecting Arithmetic to Algebra – Grades 2-7

The bridge between concrete Arithmetic concepts to the more abstract world of Algebra is quite daunting. This day will be spent on looking at a shift in instructional practices in the elementary grades that will help bridge the gap to Algebraic thinking models. Strategies to build algebraic thinking at the elementary level will be the focus of the day as teachers will look at fractions and ratios and their importance to understanding algebra.
