LETRS: Unit 7 Text-Driven Comprehension Instruction
LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) is professional development that provides teachers with the skills they need to master the fundamentals of reading instruction.  Authored by literacy experts Dr. Louisa Moats and Dr. Carol Tolman.  This edition of LETRS is a series of blended content including independent learning through the Voyager Sopris online learning platform, text book reading, and Bridge to Practice classroom application as well as facilitated learning through face to face (F2F) training and support. The four units of LETRS Volume 2 are focused on the language and reading comprehension domains of the reading rope. Unit 7 is called Text-Driven Comprehension Instruction. This penultimate unit agenda goes into theoretical models like the rope model and the mental model. It includes a narrative text lesson plan as well.

Unit 8 The Reading-Writing Connection is the final LETRS unit.  It is about why writing is so challenging, and how spelling supports writing. It also covers building sentences and sentence types, and the unit includes a section about motivating students.
