This course is designed for those participants who have a basic understanding of the essentialization process as provided in prior webinars. This course will provide participants with additional essentialization examples for a deeper understanding of what some consider more complex ELA/Reading content. This content can be different from what has traditionally been implemented as functional ELA for students eligible for an alternate assessment. In addition to essentialization examples, ideas for enhancing understanding of the content through the lens of literature and informational text will be addressed. Examples of how to make complex content meaningful will be provided.

Participants will:

  • Explore more complex ELA/Reading content and identify how to think about meaningfulness of the AEC for their student(s) through intents
  • Name specific ways content was reduced in complexity based on the essentialization process
  • Identify resources for determining meaning of unknown complex content

Target Audience
