Description: This work includes participating in a 1 hour webinar covering the topic and 2 hours completing a job-embedded task

Currently, much of school is spent focusing on ELA and mathematics, which is important, but our students need more. In this webinar series, we will explore how to remix ELA and mathematics lessons into Something Better by engaging students with activities that are enhanced with computational thinking (CT) skills, such as decomposition and pattern recognition, that can be utilized in all subjects.

Special Instructions

We will be using a crosswalk to investigate examples of ELA’s connections to computational thinking,  curriculum connections from Michigan K-12 Computer Science Standards for the 3-5 and 6-8 webinars.

Upper elementary students have a foundation of skills to build upon as they develop more sophisticated methods of problem solving. Help your students learn to break a problem or task into steps and look for “bugs” or areas that need improvement. Allow your students to use creativity, critical thinking and collaboration as they engage in online challenges and unplugged activities. Expand their growth through computer science standards that support these practices.
