As a result of changes to the Colorado READ Act in SB 19-199 and SB22-004, Colorado school districts are required to ensure all K-3 teachers who provide literacy instruction and K-12 reading interventionists complete evidence-based training in teaching reading. The READ Act mandates that approved training consists of a minimum of 45 hours. This hybrid course is part of the St Vrain CDE-approved district option. This course will address child and literacy development, administration and interpretation of literacy assessments, and components of literacy necessary for effective reading and writing instruction. Synchronous meetings will be held in Webex and course content will be housed in Schoology for asynchronous learning. Essentials in Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction is designed to be taken after the completion of an Orton-Gillingham structured literacy training option.
Please note, an Orton-Gillingham structured literacy training is a prerequisite to this course.
