    September 6 & 7, 2022

Each daily session runs from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

The mission of Cognitive Coaching is to produce self-directed persons with the cognitive capacity for excellence both independently and as members of a community. The learning experience leads to outcomes around the development of:

    • Professional efficacy

    • Effective and efficient communication

    • Creative planning

    • Reflective decision-making

    • Self-directed problem resolving

    • Positive relationships

The relationship presumed by Cognitive Coaching is that teaching is a professional act and that coaches support teachers in becoming more resourceful. Cognitive Coaching is unique in that it is not intended to change overt behaviors; instead, it attends to the internal thought processes of teaching as a way to improve learning. Behaviors change as a result of refined perceptions and cognitive processes. Cognitive Coaching is not giving advice or solving other people’s problems. Cognitive Coaching is a nonjudgmental process of mediation applied to those human life encounters, events, and circumstances that can be seized as opportunities to enhance one’s own and others’ resourcefulness. Cognitive Coaching also serves as the nucleus for professional communities that honor autonomy, encourage interdependence, and strive for high achievement.

The eight days of the Cognitive Coaching Seminars Foundation Training will be delivered over a set time period, creating time in between classes that allows for participants to practice using the coaching tools within their work setting. The tools of pausing, paraphrasing and asking meditative questions are critical to supporting thinking within the three types of coaching conversations taught. My goal is to provide a quality learning experience, full of rich dialogue, frequent practice and internalization of the critical components of Cognitive Coaching.

The training occurs within an environment that fosters safety and respect for all participants. Trust is essential for effective coaching. Real-time demonstrations of coaching conversations along with practice and homework are built into each day. Trainers model coaching conversations with audience members, facilitate a debrief conversation around the model and provide time for audience practice with peers. Coaching models and practices focus on work related topics.

Cost: $350 for 4 days (includes book and lunch).

SCECHs may be available pending State approval
