AI 101

    AI 101

Generative AI is rapidly becoming part of education, work, and everyday life—but getting started doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

This hands-on half-day workshop is designed for educators who are new to AI or who have experimented with tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, or MagicSchool but want a stronger understanding of how to use them effectively.

Participants will explore how generative AI works, practice strategies for communicating with AI, and use AI to tackle authentic educator tasks such as brainstorming, planning, differentiating instruction, creating learning materials, providing feedback, and saving time. We’ll also examine AI’s limitations, including hallucinations, bias, privacy, and the importance of keeping human judgment at the center of the process.

Rather than simply watching demonstrations, participants will experiment, build, and leave with resources they can immediately use in their own work.

    Target Audience

K–12 teachers, instructional coaches, curriculum specialists, administrators, librarians/media specialists, technology integrators, STEM educators, special educators, and other school personnel interested in learning how generative AI can support teaching and professional practice.

    Learner Outcomes
    • Understand the basic concepts behind generative AI and large language models.
    • Explore tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and educator-focused AI platforms.
    • Learn practical prompting strategies that produce better results.
    • Apply AI to real classroom and professional tasks.
    • Recognize common AI limitations and responsible-use considerations.
    • Begin thinking about how AI changes what we ask students to create, demonstrate, and learn.
