    NEST Grand Rounds Series- Introduction to School Counseling: Roles, Responsibilities and Impact
    School counselors play a vital role in supporting the academic, social-emotional, and career development of students. This Grand Rounds presentation provides an overview of the comprehensive school counseling program and the evolving role of school counselors within today's educational systems. Participants will explore the foundations of school counseling, including the delivery of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports, collaboration within Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), crisis response, student advocacy, and strategies for promoting positive school climate and student well-being.
     
    This session will examine evidence-based practices, ethical considerations, and the ways school counselors' partner with educators, families, and community agencies to address barriers to learning. Participants will gain a greater understanding of how school counseling services contribute to student achievement, attendance, behavior, mental health, and postsecondary readiness.

    This presentation is designed for educators, administrators, school mental health professionals, and community partners seeking to better understand the scope and impact of comprehensive school counseling programs in supporting student success.
    Learner Outcomes
    • Explain how school counselors contribute to student success through prevention, intervention, and responsive services.

    • Differentiate between the roles of school counselors and other school-based professionals, including school psychologists, social workers, nurses, and administrators.

    • Recognize the school counselor's role within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework, including Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 interventions.

    • Discuss the role of school counselors in supporting student mental health, crisis response, and trauma-informed practices.

    • Identify opportunities for collaboration between school counselors, educators, families, healthcare providers, and community agencies to improve student outcomes.
