    NEST Grand Rounds Series- Introduction to Motivational Interviewing
    Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based, collaborative approach for helping people resolve ambivalence and move toward meaningful change. This introductory session covers the spirit of MI, its core skills, and how to recognize and respond to change talk. Whether you work with children, adolescents, or adults, you'll leave with practical tools you can use right away in everyday helping conversations.
     
    Date: December 3, 2026

    CE credit: Act 48 and clinical CE for the PA State Board of Social Work, as with all NEST Grand Rounds.
     
    Presenter: Dr. Sam Faulkner (solo)
     
    Time: 2:00-3:00
     
    Location: Hybrid, both in person at the CSIU and virtual, a link will be provided in the confirmation email. 

    Target Audience

    NEST clinic staff, community providers, and anyone who works with children or adults in a helping capacity.

    Learner Outcomes
    • Describe the spirit of MI and how it differs from a traditional advice-giving approach.

    • Identify the core MI skills (open questions, affirmations, reflections, and summaries) and recognize change talk.

    • Apply at least one MI technique to a real-world clinical or helping interaction.
