    EHS Staff Book Club 26-27

The EHS educator book club focused on young adult (YA) literature strengthens teachers'
social-emotional competencies and literacy skills by fostering empathy and perspective-taking.
Engaging with YA novels helps educators better understand the adolescent experience, which in
turn builds stronger student-teacher relationships. The initiative also promotes a vibrant school
reading culture by modeling the value of reading for pleasure and providing teachers with relevant titles for the classroom (titles from our DLMS book sets for supplementary use in classrooms). These outcomes directly align with the SVVSD instructional framework for a positive learning environment, which prioritizes student engagement, strong relationships, and social-emotional
    learning.

The EHS staff book club supports the "Reflect and Adjust" element of the SVVSD framework
by providing a structured, collaborative space for teachers to critically examine their practices and make informed instructional changes. Through reflection on the adolescent experiences
portrayed in YA novels, educators gain deeper empathy and insight into student needs, prompting them to adjust their curriculum, classroom management, and discussion strategies for a more responsive and student-centered learning environment. This process also encourages peer-to- peer professional dialogue, ensuring adjustments are collaborative and well-supported.
