    HIV/AIDS Teacher Certification Training K-12 (Mandated) - February 5, 2026

    4:00 - 6:00 p.m. ~ Virtual

    Audience: All K-12 teachers and staff who teach HIV/AIDS education

    Instructor: Stacey Sills, Regional School Health and Student Success Consultant

    State law mandates that every public school district provide HIV prevention education at every building level (elementary, middle and high school).  This hybrid training provides participants the following:

    • Legal obligations of HIV and sex education in Michigan schools 
    • Overview of HIV/STI prevention, transmission, testing, and treatment
    • Required content including emphasis on abstinence
    • Effective curriculum options for HIV and reproductive health education
    • The role of the Sex Education Advisory Board (SEAB)
    • Guidance with answering students' sensitive questions

    To gain maximum benefit from this course, participants should know what curricula their local school board has approved. You must complete the asynchronous online training before attending the synchronous virtual/in-person training. Instructions on how to complete the online training will be emailed to you after you register.  

    *This training does not include curriculum.
