On Thursday, March 26, 2026 at the ARIN Central office from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. we will be holding Safe, Strong, and Smart: Sexuality Education for Learners with I/DD.+
This professional development session introduces educators and support staff to the Elevatus Sexuality Education Curriculum, specifically designed for learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Participants will explore how to deliver age-appropriate, inclusive, and accessible lessons that help individuals with I/DD understand their bodies, relationships, boundaries, consent, and sexual health. The session will provide strategies for creating safe learning environments and adapting content to meet the diverse cognitive and communication needs of students with high support needs.
Through discussion, hands-on activities, and review of the Elevatus curriculum’s structure, attendees will gain tools and confidence to teach essential concepts in a way that promotes safety, dignity, and informed decision-making.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify the key topics and structure of a sexuality education curriculum.
- Explain the importance of providing comprehensive sexuality education to individuals with I/DD.
- Apply trauma-informed, inclusive strategies to teach topics such as consent, communication, relationships, and body autonomy.
- Adapt lesson content and delivery methods to support learners with a range of cognitive and communication abilities.
- Foster classroom environments that promote respect, safety, and empowerment for all learners.
