The ARIN IU28 Curriculum Department will guide participants through Columbine by Dave Cullen. This book study leverages adults' need for relevance and self-direction by allowing participants to connect the book's examination of crisis response, warning signs, and community trauma directly to their own professional context, such as school safety protocols, mental health referral processes, or crisis communication planning. Learning experiences are experiential and problem-centered, incorporating collaborative discussion, guided practice in applying lessons from the text, and reflective activities that connect the historical case study to present-day practice. Delivering the program through a combination of facilitated group sessions and independent reading and reflection accommodates different learning styles, supports learner autonomy, and provides flexibility for engagement, ensuring that adult learners can access, apply, and reflect on the content in ways that meet their individual needs.
A total of 35 Act 45 hours will be awarded following completion of all coursework. This session has a $350 registration fee for staff from ARIN's member districts. The fee includes a copy of the book, Alludo access and is open to anyone seeking Act 45 credit.
