CPI: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training 2024-25

This training meets a portion of the requirements for key identified personnel, as required by the Michigan Department of Education’s Policy for the Emergency Use of Seclusion and Restraint.

Content will be delivered in a virtual and in-person format. Virtual modules (2 hours) will be asynchronous, provided through an email link, 7-10 days prior to in-person training. (Must be completed prior to in-person training.) In-person training will review concepts and provide teaching and practice of physical interventions. Total training of 8  hours,

Teachers Pre-K through grades 12, administrators, counselors, ISD staff, paraprofessionals, support staff, community partners and agencies

Learner Outcomes
  • Identify and know how to respond to varying levels of crisis behaviors.
  • Develop limit-setting strategies to de-escalate crisis behavior.
  • Understand the importance of proactive strategies to reduce crisis behavior.
  • Understand the principles of Trauma Informed Care
  • Understand the risks of restraints and their use only as a last resort.
  • Learn safety interventions and review physical skills to maximize safety and minimize harm.

Pending approval, State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) will be offered for this training. Further information will be provided by the course instructor at the session.
